No idea if I am totally finished, but I recently found a UK 12” single for “Memorabilia”, one of the first Soft Cell releases. I’ve got a CD of some of these, “Memorabilia – The Singles”, which is how I knew that “Memorabilia” was essentially what I was missing!

“Tainted Love” is the really famous version here, and “Bedsitter” is probably my favorite of the batch. Of course, I remember all of these from the time that they were new releases – but I never really did Soft Cell at all until the new century. And I happily own a legit DVD of “Non Stop Erotic Cabaret”.

Always interesting to me that some of these songs were produced by Mike Thorne, a guy who had worked with Wire. I have retained a CD of Marc Almond’s singles “Singles 1984 – 1987”, but really have yet to venture any further down that path. I wish him well after his accident of a while ago.

I guess some of the early 80’s artists weren’t meant to last. Soft Cell only managed a handful of albums. I think I have ‘em all, but only their debut is really memorable, for me.

I’d love to find some of the German Vertigo late 80’s CD Singles of these 12” singles, especially “Bedsitter”! I really love the 12” version – which is more ‘song’, as opposed to just ‘more beats’.

So, thumbs up on Soft Cell 12” singles. I’d love to find those German Vertigo CD Singles or UK 7”’s with pic sleeves of most of these.

i have the Ger. Vertigo boxed CD5 set with all 10 singles. Here is one for sale at less than I paid [$100 upon release]!

If you want just the musical contents, then I'd pop for this release instead:

http://www.amazon.com/Twelve-Inch-Singles-Soft-Cell/dp/samples/B00005Q8UE/ref=dp_tracks_all_1#disc_1

It has everything on the 10 Vertigo CD5s and 4 additional tracks, all in a less cumbersome format. You don't get the individual covers but you seem to have that taken care of with the vinyl.

My favorite single is the non-LP "Torch." I also have Cindy Ecstasy's brilliant one-off single with Rick Holliday, ex-B-Movie as Six Sed Red, "Shake It Right." I need to start comping loose bits like this that are not a full CD program.

I've seen the 3CD set or whatever it is - at this point, I think I'd opt for the CD singles themselves. I have found 2 or so for $2 ea.
