I started with “Sweet Bird Of Truth” being sent to me by an exporter – on a cassette! Really enjoyed the “Infected” long-form video. Always rather regretted that I never had the chance to see them play live. Would love to find more 7” & 12” singles, but they’re thin on the ground, ‘round here. I thought it was interesting that they removed bonus tracks from the re-mastered CD’s. OK. I love The The’s instrumentals, like “Sleeping Juice” and “Harbour Lights”. Matt Johnson / The The really knew what they were doing there for a while! Respect!

Gosh. I have pretty much the same range of The The in my collection. Looks like we have pretty much the exact same range of material. Shocking! I first got into The The when a cohort at the college paper where I was working set me up with a copy of the Uncertain Smile US 12". The guy was a DJ and didn't see any commercial potential, obviously! At first hearing I remember comparing the group to Polyrock for lack of a better simile. The last single I got was a USPCD5 of "Dogs Of Lust." I stopped cold turkey on MANY of my collections in 1993. I finally moved out of my parents home and simultaneously bought my first computer, which wasn't cheap. I reigned in my music purchases for about a year and many collections never recovered.
Jools Holland of Squeeze was the piano player on Uncertain Smile, apparently...
Maybe on the LP version. The 12" version states "all instruments/voices/percussion by Matt Johnson."
