I first heard Tortoise from my current girlfriend, at the time “TNT” was a new release. I thought they sounded a bit like Steve Reich meets Hatfield & The North. I saw them live a few times – but after the tour for “It’s All Around You” – they were too loud for me. I also saw them back Brazilian singer Tom Ze. It took a while, but I finally got an original CD of “Rhythms, Resolutions & Clusters”. Last year, I ordered a Japanese copy of “Beacons of Ancestorship”, for the Japan-only “extra track”. I buy the Thrill Jockey vinyl editions, whenever they cross my path. I don’t think I have quite all their singles / EP’s – I also have some assorted sampler CD’s that have unique Tortoise tracks. Who said I don’t like any “indie rock”?
