L: Lovin’ Spoonful / John Sebastian

Been a fan ever since “Summer In The City” was a new release…certainly seen a lot more about John Sebastian in the news recently, what with the 40th anniversary of “Woodstock”…

The Lovin’ Spoonful certainly don’t usually get included, when the honors for really excellent 60’s records are being slathered on. I think “Hums” is an awesome album, worthy of anything 1967 can bring on.

Always interested / amused to think how badly John Sebastian must’ve been treated, what with having his debut solo album ‘pirated’ by a previous record company (MGM released it after Reprise released it, with MGM copying a Reprise copy? I don’t know the whole story on this one).

In the 60s (and every performance of Godspell since!) there is always ONE GUY with a top hat somewhere embodying the "hippie hobo" look, and with LS that guy was ... John Sebastian!

Yeah, the LS stuff is pretty good, but personally I'll never forgive him for writing the "Welcome Back Kotter" theme song. Ever.
