Been listening to “I Love My Friends” again, great album. I really love the ‘set’ of Stephen Duffy, that could be regarded as his solo 90’s output: “Music In Colors”, “Duffy” and “I Love My Friends”. Great albums all!

I also like his output as “The Lilac Time”, but I have always felt that those albums were somehow missing the ‘focus’ of his solo work.

Yeah, definitely his strongest work. Those three are just stellar.

While the earlier Lilac Time LPs were excellent, I find his recent work meanders a bit these days. His songwriting chops just aren't what they were - he's falling back on familar chord patterns and arrangements too often. But Stephen Duffy on an average day is still leaps and bounds ahead of these little weenie emo bands cluttering up the musical landscape these days.
