I actually met Aldo on several visits to Italy. Once he took Tony H, & I to be interviewed in Italian TV, not far from his beloved Venice. But what city was it in? I remember talking about eels. (It’s not what you think).

It was also so much fun to go to Italy; I visited Milano, Bologna…stayed at a hotel called “Nasco” on (or near) Corso Buenos Aires, in Milano. I remember buying my first Bialetti Moka Express (coffee maker), in a tiny hardware store in Venice. I remember buying multiple flavored ices in Bologna (hazelnut ice?) – and my memory contains looking at a map while traveling by train through Italy – “What town are we in?” (looks outside) “Uh, we’re in Uscita” “I can’t find that on our map!” You dummy, it means “exit” in Italian – when you looked out of the train window, all you ever saw was the exit sign of the train platform.

Oh, and I really love Le Orme. The first one I heard and got was “Collage”, their debut 70’s LP. I had heard “Evasione Totale” from the late night FM radio, and was hooked. “Verita Nascoste” also really kicked my butt, a great album. And it was super getting to meet and talk with Aldo of Orme (who spoke excellent English) at the time of “Florian”, him telling me about how they all got tired of the loud music. It’s a really beautiful album, must play it again one day soon.

The Japanese made a beautiful paper sleeve CD of “Uomo Di Pezza”, which I found on my last visit to Japan (pictured).

Yes, I have a bit more Le Orme than is listed above, mostly 7” singles – some of which were / are totally non-LP/CD.
