Wow!

That WAS the 70s - the mainstream of it. I am floored by how little of this list I own (just 3 titles*, by the way) and how 90% of it fills me with inertia; possibly nausea. The only title here I'd ascribe "classic" status to is "The Fine Art Of Surfacing*." That was a band delivering on the promise of their 2nd album and firing on all cylinders before moving on to new vistas far beyond their initial scope. As much as I love the music of Graham Parker, I can think of no fans who regard "The Parkerilla" as anything but the end-of-contract-filler that it was. "Parallel Lines*" sold well but is hardly Blondie's high water mark. "Van Halen*" is the best album that group ever did but even so, DLR's screeching-weasel-in-heat interjections (not to mention the sticky sweet backing vocal harmonies) get old fast. "Budokan" is a live record and therefore lacks classic status for me, though some would no doubt disagree. I never heard the Rockpile album, though maybe I should!
