More Japanese CD re-issues! And a favorite Canterbury vein! But the thing about these Canterbury veins – where do you stop / start? The unifying threat would appear to be Dave Stewart of Egg. H&TN is Dave Stewart with Caravan members and some jazzers. National Health is the same, minus some of the Caravan guys. All of this stuff is circa ’73 – ’78. I believe the ‘era’ for this type of stuff ended when Alan Gowan passed away (he also worked with Hugh Hopper). This is all definitely thought of as “Progressive Rock” – and some of it is a tad jazzy. This kind of music is very popular with fans in Japan.

Yes, and please buy all three CD’s by Egg. And as many Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin CD’s as you can find! Oh, and Soft Heap. And perhaps the Khan “Space Shanty” CD. See how this stuff gets messy in it’s genealogy? Soft Machine, Matching Mole, Caravan too.

I was playing National Health in my car last Tuesday, and it sounded all really great to me - I'm so glad I got those re-issued CD's!
